How does Imigran® Migraine work?
Imigran® Migraine contains the active ingredient sumatriptan succinate that works in the brain to help relieve migraine symptoms.
It does this by helping to:
- Normalise blood flow
- Stop pain signals
- Stop other symptoms associated with migraine such as nausea, vomiting, aura (including visual disturbances) and sensitivity to light and sound
The ideal time to take Imigran® Migraine is as soon as you feel a migraine is on its way – so you get the most effective relief and help stop the migraine attack and its symptoms.
The way you can tell a migraine is on its way is when either of the following occurs:
- When the migraine headache begins
- When the symptoms of the migraine begin such as nausea (feeling sick), vomiting or your eyes become sensitive to light
When do I take Imigran® Migraine?
If your migraine symptoms are stable and you have a well-established pattern you can be prepared for your next attack.
It’s important to take Imigran® Migraine at the first sign of a migraine.
It’s important to take Imigran® Migraine early in a migraine attack, ideally as soon as you feel the attack coming on. Keeping Imigran® Migraine handy at home, work or when you are out and about is the best way to ensure you’re always prepared for when you first start to experience migraine symptoms.
One reason it’s important to take Imigran® Migraine as early as possible is a digestive problem – called gastric statis – that affects many people with migraine.
This is where the stomach empties more slowly than usual and is thought to cause symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, and can also slow down the absorption of medications, such as Imigran® Migraine tablets, which are taken by mouth. But don’t worry, if you take Imigran® Migraine later on during the attack it can still work.
How much Imigran® Migraine do I take?
Take one 50 mg tablet at the first sign of a migraine headache or associated symptoms (such as nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light).
If this first tablet helps your migraine, but it comes back later, you may take another 50 mg tablet. You should wait at least 2 hours after taking the first tablet before taking another one.
Do not take more than 100 mg (2 tablets) in any 24-hour period.
Do not take any more Imigran® Migraine if the first dose has not provided any relief from your symptoms.
